Fuses that Melt!

Around about 2002, I was in my local Pep Boys and grabbed a few Packs of pack of shiny new fuses of the type my 1984 Porsche 944 uses. Some of the ld fuses already in the car where not looking so pretty. I decided to replace all the old fuses with new.

Within 6 months I started having problems with the fuel pump and then the radiator fans. Both intermittently cutting out. This is what I found (see picture) on the right. They started to make the core material (the red) out of plastic where the old ones where a ceramic material. The large size fuses would melt and shrink with use. Not the behavior you want from your fuses......      That's progress!

I threw all the plastic fuses away and put ceramic ones back in....
