Definitions used herein:

The early 944 - Produced from 1982 thru midyear 1985. Also referred to as 944 series 1.

The late 944 - Produced from midyear 1985 thru 1989. Also referred to as 944 series 2.

Early 85 version - referred to as 85.0 or sometimes 85/1

Late 85 version - referred to as 85.5 or sometimes 85/2. A redesign of the early 944.

ML1.2 - DME used on all early 944 (1982 thru 1985.0)

ML3.1 - DME used on all late 944 (1985.5 thru 1989). Also used on 944 Turbo.
